Venkat's 'Harudu' Stumbles: Outdated Cop Drama Wastes Comeback Opportunity

Venkat's latest attempt at reclaiming his spot in Telugu cinema has hit a disappointing roadblock. The veteran actor, who once commanded decent screen presence as both a hero and reliable second lead, has chosen poorly with 'Harudu': a formulaic cop drama that feels like it's been gathering dust in someone's drawer for years.

Director Raj Talluri serves up the most predictable of police stories, centering on DCP Shankar (Venkat), an encounter specialist transferred from Mumbai to Hyderabad. The plot mechanically moves through familiar beats: corrupt politicians, unemployed youth caught in crime, and personal vendettas tied to the protagonist's murdered wife. It's the kind of story we've seen countless times, executed with neither conviction nor creativity.

Venkat himself appears committed to the role physically, but his performance feels trapped in a time warp. While contemporaries like Rajasekhar and others have evolved their screen personas to stay relevant, Venkat seems stuck delivering dialogue and performing action sequences with techniques from two decades ago. His earnest effort can't mask the fundamental disconnect between his approach and what modern audiences expect.

The supporting cast offers little relief. Natasha Singh exists purely for glamour quotient, while Hebah Patel's inclusion feels like an afterthought. Even Ali, usually dependable for comic relief, fails to generate laughs with material that's beneath his capabilities.

Technically, 'Harudu' screams low budget in all the wrong ways. The action sequences lack impact, the production values feel rushed, and the overall execution suggests a project that was compromised from conception to completion. The film's saving grace, ironically, is its brief runtime: a mercy for audiences.

What's particularly frustrating is the missed opportunity this represents. While other senior actors are carefully selecting projects that showcase their experience while appealing to younger demographics, Venkat has chosen a story that reinforces every outdated stereotype about comeback vehicles. In an era where content is king and audiences reward good performances regardless of age, picking such a routine script feels like career self-sabotage.

The Telugu film industry has shown repeatedly that there's space for veteran actors who choose wisely and adapt smartly. Unfortunately, 'Harudu' isn't that smart choice.
