Sumant Prabhas Reveals He Rejected Blockbuster 'Raju Weds Rambai' Role

Sumant Prabhas has made a startling revelation that's got everyone talking: he deliberately turned down the lead role in last year's surprise blockbuster 'Raju Weds Rambai', despite knowing the script had massive potential.

While promoting his upcoming film 'Godavari Gattupaina', the 'Mem Famous' actor opened up about this career decision that many are now calling a golden opportunity missed. According to Sumant, director Sayilu first approached him for the Telangana backdrop drama, and he was immediately excited after hearing the script.

"I knew this movie would definitely become a talking point and a big hit," Sumant reportedly told the director at the time. But despite his confidence in the material, a nagging fear held him back: the worry of being pigeonholed into a specific image.

Having already established himself as the quintessential Telangana guy with 'Mem Famous', Sumant was concerned that taking on another pure rural Telangana story would lock him into a single genre. "I felt that if I did another village-based Telangana story immediately, my image would get fixed to one zone only," he explained.

This calculated risk ultimately didn't pay off, as 'Raju Weds Rambai' went on to become one of the year's most talked-about small films. Akhil Raj stepped into the role Sumant declined and earned significant recognition for his performance.

What makes this revelation particularly interesting is Sumant's gracious acknowledgment of what he missed. After watching the film, he praised director Sayilu's work extensively, particularly highlighting the beautiful presentation of the first half. "Sayilu anna presented it far more wonderfully than I imagined when I heard the story," he admitted.

This candid confession reveals the delicate balance actors must strike between career growth and avoiding typecasting. While Sumant's caution was understandable given his breakthrough with a similar milieu, 'Raju Weds Rambai's success proves that sometimes the best opportunities come disguised as risks.

With 'Godavari Gattupaina' releasing on May 8th, it remains to be seen whether Sumant's alternative path will prove equally rewarding.
