Sithara's Suriya Film Faces August Minefield with Rajini and Aamir in Frame
Vishwanath & Sons postponement could land it in a three-way clash during Independence Day weekend

The calendar wars in Indian cinema are reaching fever pitch, and Sithara Entertainments finds itself staring at a potentially brutal scenario. Their Suriya starrer Vishwanath & Sons, originally slated for July, is now being pushed to August: but that move might be jumping from the frying pan into the fire.
The Independence Day corridor is shaping up as a massacre zone. Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 is reportedly eyeing the same window, riding on the phenomenal success of its predecessor which owned that exact slot last year. When Thalaivar comes calling with a proven blockbuster franchise, exhibitors don't think twice about screen allocation.
But wait, there's more carnage ahead. Sunny Deol's Lahore 1947, backed by Aamir Khan's production muscle, is also circling the same period. Add Nani's The Paradise to this mix, though that project seems increasingly likely to blink first and postpone, and you have a four-way collision that could leave smaller films as roadkill.
Here's where Sithara's strategy gets particularly risky. Vishwanath & Sons is reportedly a soft family drama, the kind that lives or dies on word-of-mouth rather than opening weekend hysteria. Venky Atluri has built his reputation on exactly these sorts of emotional narratives, and with Mamitha Baiju as the female lead and GV Prakash's music, the film has all the ingredients for a sleeper hit.
But sleeper hits need breathing room. They need families to discover them gradually, not get bulldozed by the opening tsunami of a Rajinikanth or Aamir Khan release. The irony is delicious: by chasing the safety of a holiday weekend, Sithara might be walking straight into the most dangerous battlefield of the year.
The smart money says they'll blink and find another slot. Because sometimes in this business, discretion isn't just the better part of valor: it's the difference between profit and disaster.
