Mythri Calls Out 'Arm Twisting' as Jetlee Gets Blocked from Telangana Multiplexes
Distribution house accuses exhibitors of using multiplex leverage to force single-screen revenue terms

The Telugu film industry is witnessing a troubling escalation in distributor-exhibitor tensions, with Mythri Movie Distributors finding itself caught in what appears to be an unfair business practice that could set dangerous precedents for the industry.
The controversy centers around Mythri's latest release Jetlee, which has been blocked from screening in multiplex properties across Telangana: not due to any multiplex-related dispute, but as apparent leverage in an entirely separate single-screen theater disagreement over weekly rentals and revenue sharing.
Kethireddy Sasidhar, representing Mythri Movie Distributors LLP, issued a strongly-worded statement condemning what he termed deliberate pressure tactics. The crux of his complaint is straightforward: multiplex agreements and single-screen terms operate in completely different business segments, and there's no justification for tying them together to apply commercial pressure.
"This is clear arm twisting," Sasidhar stated, emphasizing that while Mythri had previously accepted the halt of their films in disputed single screens, blocking Jetlee from multiplexes crosses a line. The distribution house argues this approach violates basic principles of fair business practice and could establish harmful precedents if allowed to continue unchecked.
What makes this situation particularly concerning for the industry is how it weaponizes one business segment against another. Mythri has consistently maintained their willingness to engage in fair discussions about single-screen rental disputes, but insists these conversations must happen independently without disrupting established multiplex arrangements.
This standoff reflects broader tensions in Telugu cinema's distribution ecosystem, where exhibitors and distributors continue to grapple with evolving revenue-sharing models. However, using multiplex access as a bargaining chip in unrelated disputes represents an escalation that could fundamentally alter how business is conducted in the industry.
For Jetlee, currently bearing the brunt of this commercial warfare, the impact on collections could be significant. More importantly, if such tactics become normalized, they could affect future major releases and destabilize the delicate balance that keeps Telugu cinema's theatrical ecosystem functioning.
