Andhra Pradesh's leadership is firing on multiple fronts this week, with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu making a determined push in Delhi for the stalled Polavaram Project while his son and IT Minister Nara Lokesh scouts Singapore for ambitious MICE tourism plans that could transform the state's economic landscape.

Chandrababu's Delhi mission centers on what he calls the state's most crucial infrastructure project. Meeting Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil, the CM set a clear target: complete Polavaram before the 2027 Godavari Pushkaralu. It's an ambitious timeline for a project that has faced bureaucratic hurdles for over a decade, but Chandrababu's five site visits and hands-on monitoring suggest he's serious about delivery.

The technical progress is encouraging. The new diaphragm wall completion in April 2026 and rapid advancement of Earth Cum Rock Fill Dam works in Gap 1 and Gap 2 indicate momentum. But the real breakthrough Chandrababu seeks is political: permanent withdrawal of those damaging 2011 stop work orders that have plagued the project due to inter-state complications with Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

Meanwhile, Lokesh's Singapore expedition reveals AP's broader economic vision. His tour of the iconic Suntec City and discussions with DP Urban Architects signal serious intent to position Andhra Pradesh as a global MICE destination. The numbers are striking: four convention centers already approved for Amaravati, hotel room capacity set to quadruple to 20,000, and dedicated MICE bureaus planned for Visakhapatnam, Amaravati, and Tirupati.

What's particularly smart is Lokesh's focus on Visakhapatnam's existing tech momentum. With Google, TCS, and Cognizant already anchored there, the coastal city has the corporate ecosystem that makes MICE tourism viable. The proposed Andhra Mandapam project with India Trade Promotion Organisation could be the game-changer that puts Vizag on the global convention map.

This dual strategy, securing water security through Polavaram while chasing high-value service sector growth through MICE tourism, shows AP's leadership thinking both immediate and long-term. Success on both fronts could fundamentally alter the state's trajectory.
